Bruce's most misunderstood and moody album. It's great!. Many Springsteen fans hated Tunnel of Love when it came out in 1987, and I include myself in that group--at first. I was such a big fan that I just kept listening to it, and then, one day, after perhaps the 20th listen, the album started to move me in the right way and I finally fell in love with it. It's a quiet, beautiful album, and it's also got an E-Street-style rocker called Spare Parts that is one of Bruce's best. Of course, Tunnel of Love is an exploration of the trials and tribulations of Bruce's ending relationship with first wife Michelle Phillips and his newfound love and current wife Patty. It's an honest appraisal of the art of love and falling out of love, and each song builds on the story as it passes. By the time Valentines Day ends the album, Bruce has effectively told his first wife he's gone with his new love Patty. This album fits in perfectly with Bruce's other 'sparse' albums: Nebraska, The Ghost of Tom Joad, and Devils and Dust.

Tunnel of Love. This album is not as bad as people think. You can tell that he was going through hard times when he wrote this stuff and songs like Tunnel of Love and Brilliant Dusguise are amazing. GOOD ALBUM.

Stands alongside Bruce. and rightfully so - a daring record by Springsteen that haunts still haunts and mesmerizes after all these years - Favorite songs are: Tougher than the Rest, Walk Like a Man, All that Heaven will Allow, Tunnel of Love, Two Faces and Valentine's Day

Tunnel Of Love. This album is very pop influenced, so don't expect any rock songs like Born To Run, but the album features the E Street Band, so it's still good. Tunnel Of Love features lots of emotion and love songs that are quite different then the New Jersey beach anthems of the 70's, but the album is a great listen and a good album for any springsteen fan.

Brilliant Songwriting. The thematic and stylistic differences between this release and all his previous albums would make this an essential album for even the most casual Bruce fan. But I would argue that this album features the strongest lyrics - song for song - of all of his albums, including Nebraska. There's just no "Working on the Highway" or "I Wanna Marry You" or "57 Channels" on this album. For a classic sequence, check out the last 4 songs that end the album - Brilliant Disguise/One Step Up/When You're Alone/Valentine's Day. Truly "All Killer, No Filler." The ONLY problem is that it's the anti-Side One Led Zep Side IV, if you will: "He travels fastest who travels alone." And, of course, he's right.

Simply his finest. I bought this the day it came out. It's a deeply personal album for Bruce, and is the soundtrack to a bittersweet part of my life. I've gone through about four copies of this masterpiece, and even now, 25 years later, it's one of the rare albums by any artist that I still play start to finish. It's my go-to from Springsteen. It's perfect, and simply one of his best.

Superb!. This album doesn't get near enough respect! What a great album that is filled with excellent song writing and catchy tunes. One Step Up is my all time favorite song from Springsteen and maybe from anyone. There is however so much more to this very solid album. Everything from Springsteen is great, but Tunnel Of Love is the most played album on my ipod.

The Struggle of Love. One of the things that makes the music of Bruce Springsteen appealing is that it is very personal. A couple of years into his first marriage, Bruce produced "Tunnel of Love". This is an album about the struggle to make a relationship work. How faith and temptation battle within the soul of a man. He wants to make his woman happy, yet seems to know from the outset that he won't. "I met a girl and we ran away I swore I'd make her happy every day and how I made her cry two faces have I" This is powerful, album. Do not expect to hear many "up" tunes. It is beautiful, touching, and heart breaking. Bruce is a magnificent story teller, and here his own struggles with fidelity and marriage are the canvas on which he paints some of his most compelling lyrics. Listen to it, but don't put it on at a party.

Family CD. This was my moms first CD that she ever bought, and she passed it down to me and played it to me every night. Today I'm 14 and I still love this album and every song on this is awesome!!!

Tunnel of Love!!!. 10 out 10!

A Quiet Masterpiece. If this was Bruce's only record, he would never have become The Boss. He would have simply been known as one of the great singer-songwriters of all time instead. As a collection of songs, this is certainly his most personal piece of work, and might just be his strongest. Born to Run, The River, and Born in The USA are without a doubt, three of the best Rock records ever made. Tunnel of Love though is a quiet master work. Tougher Than The Rest, Walk Like A Man, and the Willy DeVille inspired Brilliant Disguise are just three of the standouts on this beautiful record.

One of the best records of popular music of 1980's. The Boss's lyricism and melodic development really show on this fantastic followup to Born in the USA. It's a twisting tunnel in Springsteen's musical odyssey, but at the end lies the a satisfaction that the listener has heard the work of a master. The Boss constructs an coolly introspective sonic unity, performed in a multitude of different tempos, tonal colors and instruments. He decisively discards the anthemic catch-all of Born in the USA and instead offers listeners a true narrative of self-journey. Save a seat for the Boss next to Woody and Bob, because these songs will one day join the canon of American popular music. Highly recommended.

For me it’s his Best. Time passes yet i consistently drift backwards to this gem. Ages well plus every song happens to be solid. Am I a Bruce fan? Meh, so so but “Tunnel of Love” is a special album. “Tougher Than the Rest” “Title Track” “All that Heaven Will Allow” lead the charge.

wonderful. This is the best album the Boss has made since Darkness on the Edge of Town. The songwriting is just fantastic. His first four albums and this are his best. If you can get your hands on any soundboard bootlegs from 1975 thru 1978 DO IT

excellent. i listened to this album and immediately said- bruce's marriage is ending. little did we all know what was to come and bless him for finding peace and happiness. this album feels like it is from his soul. and as always . . . now and forever . . . everything is exquisite: lyrics, timing, composition, delivery and band support. the boss.

His Best. Tunnel of Love was his best in my opinion for all around music and lyrics. I know many will disagre, but for me, in my youth in was his best and will always be!

Truth. I've often felt there is more truth in a well written song than in any religious text I've ever read. Tunnel Of Love contains more truth than any album I have ever heard. One Step Up could be the most heartbreaking song ever written, and the most honest and deeply connecting song about the demise of a relationship ever recorded. "We danced as the evening sky faded to black..." That single image stops my breath every time I hear the song. This album is Springsteen at his absolute best, because he is at his most vulnerable. An all time classic.

Still a favorite. Ive been listening to this album since the 9th grade (even went to the concert). It still an all time fave over the last 26 years.

One of his best. This is a classic.i recently listen to this all the way through.almost 26 years when it was released.it has stood the test of time.there are 2 songs Bruce left off this album lucky man and two for the road.he should have put them on the album.the album digs deep into relationships which I think every couple goes through.happy and sad and Bruce ask the questions and ponders the future.one of his most underrated works in music.

Hauntingly Superb. By far and away one of the most personal albums ever penned by The Boss, and as a result, maybe his best, along with Born To Run. Although not as commercially successful as others, I believe that among those of the fringe of being a Springsteen loyalist, this album is like a fine wine, growing more respected and valuable over time.

❤️. ❤️

Brilliant Disguise is his single best. I have so many songs of his which all take there time at the top of my personal list of favorites, until recently when for the foreseeable future "Brilliant Disguise" will occupy that position and everything else will have to vie for 2nd. Truly one of the most perfectly written songs in the history of written songs.

One of Springsteen's great albums. I have come to enjoy this album more as time passes; Some of the songs have taken on new meaning. "Walk Like a Man" was always a great song to me. But since my wonderful father has passed away (a "Jersey Boy in Exile"), I get misty when I here the song. The rest of the album is excellent.

True, it's not party music, but so friggin' what?. For some this record was a yawner. Unfortunately for them, they are missing out on some of Bruce's most heartfelt lyrics and songs. It's for many of Springsteen's fans a personal favorite - yes, more so than any of his other releases, and that's saying something. No joke. That's right. Go ahead, press the BUY ALBUM button now, and everything is going to be okay. :)

The Best. This is the best album he has ever done. By far better written than Born in the USA. The songs have so much meaning to them. I never understood why this album did not sell more than it did. You will not be sorry if you buy this album. ENJOY

WOW. Just bought it a few days ago. Definitely not a party album, but it'll probably show you things your own parents wouldn't touch with a barge pole. In other words, Springsteen owns you. Just accept it.

Classic Springsteen. I bought this album when it first came out in '87 and numerous times since (lost CD, etc)...I'm now getting ready to buy again for my I-Pod. It IS classic Springsteen as the story-telling, much like his other albums, is off-the-charts. It's a dark album, but not all things are sunshine in this world, and that's the message he delivers. I introduced this album to my ex-wife and it's now one of her favorite albums...for the same reasons mentioned above. It's an honest interpretation of Bruce's life 'at that moment' and you can honestly put yourself in his shoes. BUY IT!

great. from top to bottom outstanding.

Rediscovering this album..... This is album is from a period of Springsteen that I had previously considered a low point but as is typical with his music, I am rediscovering the beauty of this collection of songs. This album is also.....very.....good....love-making....music.......

Tunnel of Love. Great album to re-discover. It shows Bruce as a vulnurable artist and as a true human. Love "one step Up" (my favorite)

Bravo.. Looking back on Tunnel of Love now, 20 years later, it seems like this is the record he (and the E Street Band) WANTED to do after The River, but Sony didn't hear a single. So they recorded the anthemic Born In The U.S.A to leverage Sony into putting out this slice of solid F-in rock. "The Boss", indeed.

One of the Best Second Side's Ever. Probably Springsteen's final masterpiece. He tells the story of a romance from unrequited love (Ain't Got You) to courting and marriage (All That Heaven Will Allow and Walk Like a Man) and then things get dark. Jealousy, fear, loneliness, and regret, all get touched upon in the album's magnificent second half. He would touch these highs again on Lucky Town, The Rising, and on some of his more recent work, but never with this kind of consistency.

Nice effort, though. Even if I agree with the comments on this album, I have to say that «One step up» is one of my favourite songs ever from this artist. So I can't say this effort is not good, even if it was not as popular as «Born in the USA». Considering the fact that «Nebraska» is also an incredible album, if «Tunnel of love» is sounding like the latter is a high-quality mark for me.

Bruce talks about a broken heart.. This album has become a set that I have relied on to help me deal with relationships. When this wandering set of tunes was released, my marriage was heading over the falls, and my life was falling apart. If you want an entry point to Bruce Springsteen, and you are not sure, check out "Tunnel of Love". The tight structure of "Brilliant Disguise" and it's lyric feeling of palpable loss is a gem. Have you seen Bruce and the 'E Street Band' ? Do yourself a favor and GO. "Two Faces" - "Tougher than the Rest" and "One Step up" are songs that speak to the core of man/woman, life/love, and loss/pain and being abandoned. Bruce is an American natural resource and a light in the dark.

Love it. One of my favorite albums of his. Brilliant disguise, when you're alone and one step up are three of my favorite songs from Springsteen!

One of the biggest surprises ever for me.. There are no doubt thousands of music reviews for Springsteen on the net, and most would no doubt glorify his masterpieces like Born to Run, Darkness, USA, Nebraska and so on. Yet as a huge Springsteen fan, I was shocked when I looked at my 'Top 25 most played' and found that 'Two Faces' and 'Brilliant Disguise' were number 1 and 2 respectively; this then made me realise just how beautiful and masterful this collection of undervalued songs truly are. If you love the dark (and arguably morbid) undertones that radiate from Darkness, The River, Nebraska and USA, then you will absolutely be hooked by Tunnel of Love.

Great !!. Tougher Than the Rest has such a lovely sound! My favourite song! 💕👌🏼

Better with time. I bought this album when it was released and though it was just OK. As a Springsteen fan it is a must have...some of the work is influenced by his first wife and it showed at the time...as the years have gone, this album has got better...some highlights include the single "Brilliant Disguise", "Cautious Man" and "Two Faces". Get it

There is a case to be made that this is his finest record. I have never read a review anywhere I don't think which states this is his finest album. It is the one I have come back to the most though and my favourite one. Born To Run and Darkness On The Edge Of Town (not The Promise), masterpieces that they are, have a young man's vision one grows out of rather than into. Born In The USA, despite containing many charting hits internationally, is so very commercial - kind of like a whole album full of songs like Hungry Heart. The River is a terrific song and forshadows the country music influences all over this one - the rest of the album is pretty ordinary though, Point Blank being a notable exception. Nebraska? An interesting idea. Very dark, gothic dark even. The opening song could be one alluded to in Dylan's autobiography as the type of song he wouldn't want to write - one from a killer's viewpoint. A demo album too, albeit a demo by The Boss. Everything before Born To Run is leading up to it more or less. Everything after Tunnel Of Love builds on what he had solidified here first. The synthesizers are the only 80's dated aspect to this acoustic based sounding album. Not all the songs are up there with his best but the spirituality of a song such as the closer contains, I feel, the essence of the man's soulfulness in sound. I'm biased, can't help but be, because when Brilliant Disguise was playing on New Zealand's music video programs it was around the same time that John Hiatt's Slow Turning was being played. Those two songs, plus a few others, opened up a world of rootsy sounding music unheard in popular song for a long time. The country was drowning in a sea of wussy music called New Romanticism or Synth Pop. What was worse than the sound was that the songs of the day had no meaning to them which went beyond material relationships between people and things - the 1980s - Yuck!! This album was real! Still is.

❤️❤️❤️. 💜💗💜 such an amazing album. Bruce Springsteen never seizes to disappoint

Great humble uplifting album. This is one of Bruce's classic albums raw at times but a classic bringing back youthful memories...

Personal.. reflecting his life at the time. great album & worth buying for tougher than the rest.

The breakup album. Moving , uplifting, sad, a timeless classic of beautifully written songs from a heartbroken man fighting his emotional state of mind ! Must have for any serious fan ! Love it
