How am I supposed to listen to this whole album when I can’t even get over the first song !?!?

I’m an older adult so I don’t relate to her music. However, she was on the 2022 Rock and Roll hall of fame induction ceremony. Carly Simon was one of the inductees and wasn’t able to attend. Olivia performed in her honor and sang You’re So Vain. I think she did a wonderful job. She sounded great and I think she will do great as she gets older.

I will say, I have always been a large fan of Olivia’s voice, and been a fan of her for about 2 years now. But this album is legit just *chefs kiss* She has great writing skills, the lyrics are smart and beautifully written. And the music itself, the whole album has multiple genres included in it. You’ve got some relatable teen angst type song, some just sad pretty song, and just all so good. Olivia’s range itself as well is shockingly beautiful, I believe she’s won 3 Grammys now, and I thinks that’s well deserved! I think she slays, and did a good job, give the album a try soon. And it’s ok if you don’t like, everyone’s got different opinions. Either way, beautiful album, great vocals, and well written lyrics. Enjoy and have a lovely day 💜

Wow this did not disappoint. I remember when Drivers License first came out I listened to it constantly. I think I’m some ways it’s kind of a perfect song. So when I heard a full album was coming I got really excited, and even then my expectations got blown out of the water. I was expecting a decent ballad album from a new up-and-coming pop star and instead I got a quasi-punk/pop record with indie influences precariously pieced together into a narrative relatable to younger listeners, and somehow it works. The instrumentation is solid across the board here but Olivia’s vocals are really what shine. There was a point in at least half the song that made me visibly delighted to be listening to it. That being said, there were a couple songs I wasn’t crazy about, those being 1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back and Favourite Crime, which I thought felt a little static compared to the rest of the album. Olivia Rodrigo is going to be one of those artists that kickstarts the next generation of young, talented songwriters and storytellers eager to make their mark in new, unique, and unconventional ways. Solid 4/5. Check it out.

Obviously, there’s a huge, aggressive marketing machine behind the Disney starlet, hoping to push her along the same path to stardom well-treaded by Britney Spears, Christina Aguiliera etc. I’m not sure if she is on track to diva stardom, however. This new album seems to be a collection of pop music assays designed to identify what’s going to stick and what’s going to flop. I’m not sure if any of it is going to end up sticking. The music is dull and uninspired, and it all seems to be completely unoriginal; each song sounds like some other song you’ve heard before. Most disappointing is that Rodrigo’s singing, in the current album, lacks depth and passion. I’m sure she worked very hard, though. Just like her predecessors, Rodrigo is beautiful and a well-trained performer, with a great performance CV. But unlike the other Disney starlet-come-divas, she’s is up against acts who enjoy a far more formidable marketing machine: K-pop! Her ability to be successful in this space is going to depend upon how well her team can position her relative to Korean offerings - which tend to consist of performers who are far hungrier, far more talented and far, far better trained than Rodrigo. If she were to have had better music and sung with more passion - like Dua Lipa, for example - she might yet do well. But this album isn’t it.

SOUR is a great debut album from Olivia Rodrigo, it has all the hits that launch her as an artist to watch. The album only has 11 tracks on it, which maybe a little short for some listeners. But that could be because they did NOT want any filler on it, and maybe they wanted to get Olivia’s music out there quickly. To strike while the irons hot. The SOUR album ranges from pop punk, to pure pop, to slow ballads. Her influence from Taylor Swift is apparent in the song “1 step forward 3 steps back”. It intentionally lifts music from Taylor’s last reputation song “New Years Day”. SOUR is a snap shot of what most teenagers are going through these days. Especially with thinking they do not stack up against their peers. Not beautiful enough, not popular enough, not cool enough. Comparing themselves to other teenagers their own age. SOUR is also obviously about a bad break up of a young relationship, and processing that relationship in the aftermath. It was of no surprise “drivers license” was an instant hit. It was like nothing else out there at the time. “drivers license” as a single, cut through as one of the best break up songs ever written. You can hear the heartache. So it resonated with listeners of all ages. Olivia Rodrigo’s singing voice always sounds beautiful no matter what genre, or kind of music, she does. Her voice suits all out pop punk, but is also beautiful when singing the ballads of the album. You could probably listen to her sing the telephone directory all day, and still think it sounds good. My favourite song is “jealousy jealousy” it is in the vain of “good 4 u” but a little bit punchier. That maybe because it has a different songwriter (on only this song). And it shows, “jealousy jealousy” has a theme of being on social media, and hating yourself for it. SOUR is a great album for this day and age of self doubt about ourselves. Yes it is a little short on songs, but the ones that are on it are great. I highly recommend Olivia Rodrigo’s “SOUR”, it is a catchy, and punchy debut album.

I was really looking forward for Olivias album so much after I loved all her singles, I was here for Drivers license, you could feel what Olivia was going through in her writing with her breakup, Deja Vu was her angry about about her ex faze and I was still here for it, Good 4 U was her breakout song where she was finally over Josh which lead everyone to the impression her new album would be about healing, self discovery and well…Herself except exactly like her song “1 step forward 3 steps back” I felt that’s exactly what Olivia did with her album, it being nearly entirely about her breakup and the aftermath but we never get to know her. Her album isn’t the worst just disappointing, I recommend ‘Traitor’ & ‘Jealousy, Jealousy’ even if they go against the narrative she portrayed they’re still bops. I’m hoping Olivia will be able to stand on her own in her future music career and not rely on the media coverage of her breakup to hold up her album.

Originally being called *OR and being the ultimate driving party playlist for young boys and girls, the album is (despite the lyrics) fun with good tracks like good 4 u, brutal, traitor, jealousy, jealousy and deja vu being good tracks but the most influential song is drivers license. I recommend the album to you a lot and hope you enjoy it.

I am quite fond of Olivia Rodrigo’s songs, but as people say, they are very basic and they all sound the same. There is noting diverse about her songs since they all talk about the same thing. Her voice however, is very good for an 18 year old. She has such maturity to write songs like this but we need to give it a bit more -oomph- you know? But other than that, the songs are okay. My favourite is Good 4 U. It’s good because it changes tones by going very mellow then getting tense. I like that aspect of her music but more needs to be done to give it more diversity. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I understand that there was a lot of hype around this album and all that but even though it didn’t live up to it it’s still really good. I know that most of her songs are about heartbreak and sadness and most people don’t like that but look, she’s still young and things like this are hard to go through... hopefully she will evolve. Her voice is amazing and she is really mature for an 18 year old that’s for sure. I don’t think any person that age would be able to write songs so powerful. I think we can all agree on that.
