Exactly what I needed. 300 years of history in its age, like a wine of fine caliber for my ears. Something about how Mr. Ma plays this suite, is ethereal.

Third times a charm, too.. This rendition is closer to his second release of these great works that the first and they are all first rate. Yes have lived with and played these works for over 40 years now and this latest performance by YoYo is just heavenly. The freedom he’s attained with them is breathtakingly beautiful. My desert island set.

Beauty of Bach. Bach's majesty is more typically described as well-tempered in its construction, and predictable, if not almost mechanistic in his attempt to describe the order of his deity. Emotional depth and warmth are not as often associated. From the compassionate, experienced hands and mind of Yo-Yo Ma, joined by the warm, human voice of his Stradivarius, or Petunia, his Montagnana Cello, if the lister can not find music to make love to, to cry to, to laugh with, or simply to basque in the warmth of, then they are simply constructed neither for the world of music, nor the realm of human emotion. Timeless. Very talented and no ratings under 5 stars make sense... clearly lower class rap supporters that don’t have an ear for true music. It’s not their fault it’s they’re broke parents.

Third Rendition. The 80’s version is still my favorite. I respect Yo-Yo Ma for putting out the third out-put this music, is so incredibly beautiful and important to him, that he has felt the need to put out a third and final recording. I salute the effort. We now have the unique opportunity to hear an artist take on a magnificent body of work three different times in the span of his life. The young man in the 1980s and now the seasoned musician with worldwide claim provides a third and final offering. BACH’s Cello Suites in some of the most beautiful and important music in western civilization.

Breathing!. I love this virtuoso, and looked forward to his playing Bach on cello. However, the breathing of the artist is so pronounced that it overshadows the excellent playing. I tried to relax listening to this, but found the breathing so disturning that I am askig for my money back. I hope a recording will be done that captures the cello without the artist's belabored breathing.

Beautiful. I’ve never really listened to these pieces and so cannot make comparisons to other recordings. All I know is that this one is gorgeous.

Not Bad. You Are Really Skilled But I Never Listened Till Now

Bach. I love Bach. And I love Yo Yo Ma. I just hope this isn't another repeat of "Bach's Greatest Hits" by Yo Yo Ma that has the same music on it that we've heard over and over by Mr Ma.

Yo-Yo Ma’s last and greatest Bach Cello Suites. This is a definitive recording in a crowded and highly competitive field for the greatest music written for cello. I am a big fan of Yo-Yo Ma and his advocacy for classical music as well as cultural exchange. His previous two recordings of this work had not measured up to the greats, like Steven Isserlis’ performance. The first was technically immaculate if a touch impersonal. His second was more evolved but some of the choices seemed mannered and not quite a congealed into a flowing new perspective on the piece. After living with the music for many decades and performing these works all over the world, Ma creates a masterful recording that rivals the very best. You can tell this music is in his bones, his heart and head united and fully committed to conveying every emotion and color. This isn’t concerned with being historically informed or tied to any performance practice except how Ma personally connects to the music, giving us direct, honest, individualistic playing from a master artist at the height of his creative prowess. Fans of any music, Ma, and Bach should listen to this without reservation no matter how many recordings of the Cello Suites you already own. This is an important recording and the greatest classical recording I have heard this year.

Music of the soul. He is a wonderful and the depth of this recording is food for the soul.

Great Recordings!. If you compare these recordings of Bach’s Cello Suites to the previous recordings by Yo Yo Ma, you will immediately recognize that this set is far superior to the others. Can a performer who has been an incredible interpreter of Bach for decades really improve on perfection? Yes! These renditions are head and shoulders above the previous recordings! Such depth of understanding! Thank you, Mr. Ma for thrilling my soul through the years, but especially now - through these definitive recording of these solo masterpieces!

Bach played by a master. I heard all six Cello Suites last night at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. It was an extremely moving performance by a musician who has loved and played Bach most of his life. I can't wait to hear them again on my home speakers
