Amazing. This guy is one of the best singer/songwriters of our generation. He ranks up there with John Prine, Todd Snider, and the greats.

Brilliant !!!!!. I'm not a huge fan of country music but by no means I'm I a hater. I listen to every thing from A Tribe Called Quest to Johnny Cash and just bought Patsy Cline on vinyl. I heard Sturgill's Version of "In Bloom " on a podcast (This Is Rad ) and had to run out and get the CD. From there I heard "Welcome To Earth", watch did make me tear up when on the fourth listen realized he said "Hello My Son". Definitely a new twist on country music, who would've thought you can have a horn section but still very familiar.

Just ok. His last two albums are much better. Still this is better than all the Nashville garbage out there.

Over 50% of violent crime is created by black people. Yo momma so fat she tried to alphabetize m&ms.

OH MY GOD. Probably the best record of 2016. Sturgill Simpson is so talented and how he isn't nominated for every award is beyond me.

Meh.. Rihanna should've been nominated for Album of the Year over him.

Better every time you listen!. I love this entire album. The first time I listened I wasn't sure because it wasn't too much like the old stuff. But now it's my go to "in the car" soundtrack. None of the songs ever get old. I can listen to the entire album from beginning to end and then start it over again. What's even better is that Sturgill is even better live. Sounds hard to believe but it's true.

Horrible. This guy has always sucked.

Sturgil. New, GOOD country...amazing. Quality work....Conway , Merle would be proud.. J

Don't care what y'all think!. Amazing album! For all those crying about it not being the same please think for a second. Y'all are the same people crying about everything on the radio sounding the same. Screw y'all! Y'all want the same album over again, yet y'all want orriginality. Hard to do both people. If Sturgill did an album exactly like Metamodern or High Top, nobody would buy it! You would've heard the same songs already, just with minor changes! Sturgill put togethor this album as a recording of his life for his son, and yet some of y'all are saying this isn't truely Sturgill. Hmph, do your research. He wrote, composed, and produced this album. Therefore, this is about as Sturgill as it gets. If you love good music, buy this album!

One of Few. Sturgill Simpson is an enigma. He isn't truly country, he isn't really rock. He blends so many genres that he becomes almost a genre unto himself. Right now is a great time in music as a few guys are taking traditional country and bending it to their will. Besides Sturgill, I am really digging Jason Isbell and American Aquarium (or BJ Barham solo). Then I add the one guy that keeps the classic sound but takes it up a notch, Chris Stapleton. I would love to see these four guys try their hat at a "Highwaymen" style collaboration. THAT would be something to see live!!!

Amazing for start to finish!. This is a fantastic album, and my favorite way to listen to it is from start to finish. The songs blend into one another, and the order of of the songs are perfect. Great album to listen to in the car while driving. You can really catch the themes of becoming a father/parent and Sturgill’s time in the military. Beautiful, fun, and interesting! Love it!

DUDE!!!!. I found Sturgill by listening to the likes of Chris Stapleton, Eric Church, Jamey Johnson, Merle Haggard, Willie, and more. I am absolutely blown away. This guy is about as good as it gets. This album is comparable in depth to Eric Church's Mr Misunderstood, but with the sheer bluntness of Jamey Johnson. He maintained the formidable, mysteriousness of Stapleton. He has the jazzy sound of the Hag and the poetic delivery of Willie. This guy is the total package.

Outstanding.. What a special album this is. If you are looking for some new music to listen to, check this out. I love the feel of this album.

Masterpiece. This album is incredibly moving from stat to finish

The greatest artist of this generation !. Infused rock and country with a little bit of jazz! Love it.

True music. The songs are intelligent and meaningful, they grow and grow and continue to grow on you. A natural progression that compliments his older albums.

Ruined In Bloom. To start us off, In Bloom by Nirvana is a great song. It was a a good song for listening to. Then Sturgill Simpson covered it. After that moment In Bloom was never the same for me. I know some of y’all would disagree with me when I say that STURGILL SIMPSON RUINED IN BLOOM. Now I hate In Bloom because he covered it. I know that Nirvana has also covered multiple songs. They are notorious for it. But at least they but effort into it, and didn’t make it a CONTRY SONG. Like bruh.

What just happened???!!!. I just saw Sturgill on SNL and my jaw is still open. Every 5 years or so, a new artist comes along and reboots music. You know who they are. Add Sturgill to the list of iconic legends who will be remembered. Just wow!

Phenomenal. I cannot say enough good things about Sturgill Simpson & his music. The man & his band are living legends, true gifts from God above. World class. His music & this album in particular have changed my life in so many good ways. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing your gifts with the world.

Strong Album. 🔥🔥🔥

You measure a man by how much he loves!. One of the best pieces of work I've ever heard!

Great choice of a cover song. He took a 90s alt/grunge classic and put a country spin on it and made the song his own. I love his voice and the music was beautifully performed. I'm normally a metal guy, but I've been playing this one on repeat....great job!!!

It just keeps getting better. He continues to deliver

the best. Best album ive bought in a long time. my only complaint is thats its too short. Truly an innovator....ever changing styles on each of his albums. Who want to hear the same thing over & over?

Simpson needs to come to Café B-29 Ozark Mo!. We have enjoyed ALL of your music! A true artist

Great album...right up there with the Wall. Excellent album

If You're Gonna Mess with Country Music.... I think if you're going to mess with country music, THIS is the way to do it. I think this takes a traditional country sound and does something interesting, fresh, and unexpected with it, and I find that so much more appealing and respectable than what mainstream country is churning out. I'm so sick of pop-country songs with really cliché lyrics intended to be deep, and this is the antithesis of that. This is gritty and raw, hard to put a finger on, and it's just wonderful. This album is the modern equivalent to the photo of Johnny Cash giving the finger ot the music industry.

A true craftsman. Sturgill I love the sound, the meaning and your storytelling. All so much heart and the power drive and meaning of "Call to Arms". Amazing SNL debut! Hey get with Rob Baird and do something together. Thanks for keeping country fresh. You are doing a great job in a tough world!

No thanks. Completely lost interest in this clown

A country (?) album I can love!. I read reviews of this album In Rolling Stone and Entertainment Weekly and wondered what all the fuss was about. Surely to God this guy who I've never heard of could take me back to country (?) the way Johnny, Waylon, Willie and Kris did it when I was a teen. Then, I saw him interviewed by Charlie Rose and his performance on SNL, and I was sold. His performance at the Grammys with the Dap Kings was pure magic. This album is in my top ten of the year in any genre, and I buy a lot of records. Tremendous effort, Sturgill. You have a fan for life here.

An Important LP. Simpson is amazing. Not country, not rock, but always sublime. I hope he doesn’t quit writing. His version in bluegrass style on Cuttin’ Grass also are super.

A Journey.......... I don't think there is a better collection of musicians going than these fellows. In our hectic, weird lives we lead, it is music like this that lifts me up and gives me hope for humanity. This music gives me thoughtful lyrics, awesome musicianship and genuineness in buckets full. We all should rally behind artists like this who push boundaries and never settle for Florida georgia Line types who are doing nothing but a money-grab.

Album of the Year. A complete Album, unheard of these days. Nothing is wasted here. An origninal work that takes a few listens... you will be rewarded.

Not what I want to hear from Sturgill. I appreciate his musical genius, but this isn’t my cup of tea. Perhaps it will grow on me.

Astounding music. This album is a tribute to fatherhood, love, devotion, regret, and the high seas. Sturgill's lyrics are matched by the songs seamless flow and orchestration. Sea Stories stands out in its outlaw country roots and is followed immediately with a beautiful, soulful cover of Nirvana's In Bloom. The album masterfully blends country with soul and the result is nothing short of a masterpiece. This is lightning in a bottle, and definitely worthy of the album of the year nomination.

Music Backed by Substance. Sturgill is the real deal; a great artist and this is a great LP. I rarely buy a whole album. I usually just pick the best songs and download those. I've got to tell you though, after hearing what Sturgill said about the ACM's Merle Haggard award, I had to come back and buy the whole album. The music does not and will not disappoint. It's a good mix of songs influenced by a few differnt genres. It works because it's good music, sung from the heart by a good singer. You've really got to admire and support an artist whose craft means more to him than his commercial success. It takes courage to tell it like it is in a song. It takes even more to do it in real life...when it's not in your best interest to do so. That's called conviction. Sing on, brother.

Best country act out there!. This album is pure gold!!!

Words can’t express what he’s doing. It’s amazing that people claim to be fans, and want to strap him down in the 70’s country music sound. What he is doing is so much more than that. Furthermore he isn’t doing any of this for his fans he is doing of himself. He is telling his story not anyone else’s. The clueless need not delve into these depths, truth seekers and believers only should apply. Thank you Sturgill!

I♥️him but . . .. I really love and enjoy his voice, I think it's pure country. However, I wish he would annunciate clearly. I know his lyrics are meaningful, but can't understand what he is saying. Or maybe he is channeling Meryl Haggard?🤐👎🏼

THE BEST. Sturgill kills it in this album. All the haters are just dissapointed that the album doesn't sound like Keith Urban country crap. Sturgill is redefining country music and bringing a lot of people that have never enjoyed the genre in. I thought country music was all like Jason Aldean until Strurgill opened my eyes to how great of a genre it CAN be.

A genuine artist. Welcome to Earth (Pollywod) & Call to Arms are magical. One of the few modern country artists with integrity and real talent, who actually makes me excited to listen to their music.

Incredible Album. A note to the "nay sayers".. This entire album is incredible from start to finish. I am not the longest standing fan of his music by any means but I know of his history and his desire to never do the same thing twice. That being said, I was hooked on Sturgill from my first listen a few years ago. It started with Turtles. I bought Metamodern Sounds immediately. Before I had finished even downloading that I had purchased High Top. Immediately wanting more I found Sunday Valley on Youtube and fell in love with a different sound. I found everything that I could on youtube of his and love it all. For those "nay sayers" talking about him losing his ground and roots on this new album, you really never knew his music or the artist to begin with. I never put him into the "Country" genre because he is an artist without a genre. An artist who will not be pinned down by a label. First album was very country/bluegrassy. Second more country and blending into psychedelic rock from time to time. A big change from High Top. He has been quoted as saying "I have no interest in doing the same thing twice". Sturgill is doing exactly what he said he was going to do. He is not the savior of country music. He is a savior of great music though and really does not give a crap if you approve or not. He always hopes that you love his music but is OK if you float to the newest flavor of the week.

❤️. If you don't like this album, you probably listen to Luke Bryan. No thanks. I'm sticking with true talent.

Wow!. Not much of a CW fan yet like all sorts of styles from Groban to Smooth Jazz! Then, I saw this guy on SNL and said :" I like his Style"! Ha👏😻👍😉

A Bit Of A Departure..... .....but a welcomed one. Heartfelt and heartwarming! Sturgill Simpson is the breath of fresh air we needed!

But iTunes took it back!?. Love him! Purchased this album. iTunes app shows I purchased it. No “cloud” for me to click to download. Just says “purchased” without it actually being on my playlist. Not even listed under the purchased tab. Very upset by this! Give me my Album back iTunes!

Sturgill Under Full Sail. If you're a father to a son, man, does this hit home. Not that you need to be to be floored by this fantastic set of tunes. It collectively pulls at the heartstrings, rocks, and grooves. Sturgill Simpson has taken his writing to another level, and every performance here is outstanding. The opening and closing numbers were early favorites for me, but everything in between is great. A powerful album beautifully done.

What a Joke!. Who is this guy? Listen to country music all my life and love how the Grammys refuses to recognize real country artists. This guy hasn't had a single song on the radio all year but wins country album of the year... right. Fake awards and fake news. We can't even believe the media with who wins our music awards anymore . Sad, very sad state.

Never heard of Sturgil before the Grammys. OMG he is so talented!!!! I never heard of him before the Grammys! Now I have to buy all of his albums, what talent!! What a voice!!!
